Looking beneath the surface: Why we use OCT technology

Imagine going to a mechanic who only looks at the paintwork of your car to tell you if the engine is running smoothly. That sounds absurd, right?

Yet, this is what happens during a standard eye test at many retail chains. They check if you can read the letters (the paintwork), but they don't look deep inside the engine (the retina).

At Zeker Zicht, we believe in high-tech care. That is why we use OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography).

What is an OCT Scan?

Think of an OCT scan as an MRI or ultrasound for your eye, but using light waves. It allows us to see the different layers of your retina in cross-section, with micrometer precision.

It is non-invasive, painless, and takes only seconds. But the information it gives us is priceless.

What can we detect?

With an OCT scan, we can spot eye conditions years before you would notice any vision loss yourself:

  • Glaucoma: We can measure the thickness of the nerve fibers. Thinning fibers are the first sign of damage.
  • Macular Degeneration: We can see fluid accumulation or waste products deeply buried under the retina.
  • Diabetic changes: Early signs of swelling in the macula.

Don't settle for a basic check. Upgrade your eye exam with an OCT scan and get the complete picture of your eye health.
