Glaucoma: The "Silent Thief" that steals your vision without pain

Close up of an eye or tonometry test

Of all the eye conditions we treat, Glaucoma is the one that worries us the most. Why? Because in the early stages, you feel absolutely nothing.

There is no pain. Your vision remains sharp. But silently, the pressure inside your eye is damaging the optic nerve fibers. By the time you notice "tunnel vision" or missing spots in your sight, the damage is permanent and irreversible.

That is why it is called the "Silent Thief of Sight."

Who is at risk?

While anyone can get glaucoma, you should definitely book a screening if:

  • You are over 40 years old.
  • There is a history of glaucoma in your family (genetics play a huge role).
  • You are highly myopic (nearsighted).
  • You have African, Asian, or Hispanic heritage (statistically higher risk).

More than just a "Puff of Air"

You might know the "air puff" test from simple optic shops. While this measures eye pressure, it is not enough for a diagnosis.

At Zeker Zicht, we perform a comprehensive glaucoma screening:

  • Tonometry: Precise measurement of intraocular pressure.
  • Optic Nerve Assessment: We look directly at the nerve head to see if there is any 'cupping' (damage).
  • Visual Field Test (if needed): To check for blind spots in your peripheral vision.

Peace of mind takes only 30 minutes

Don't wait for symptoms. Glaucoma is treatable if caught early. Protect your vision with a professional screening.
