What to Expect During a Contact Lens Fitting

At Zeker Zicht, your contact lens fitting takes place over two appointments. The first visit, or intake, lasts around 15 minutes. It includes a consultation, an eye analysis, and lens selection based on the eye exam and a questionnaire. The second visit, known as the lens training session, takes about 30 minutes. During this time, you will learn how to insert, remove, and care for your lenses, followed by a final check-up to assess lens strength and fit.

Contact Lens Fitting

Contact Lens Fitting

At Zeker Zicht, we understand that a proper fit for contact lenses is crucial for comfortable and clear vision. Our contact lens fitting consists of three important steps: the consultation, eye analysis, and lens training.

Consultation

During the initial meeting, our optometrist will discuss your expectations and needs regarding contact lenses. You can ask questions, and we take the time to understand how often and how long you plan to wear the lenses.

Eye Analysis

In this step, we conduct a thorough eye examination. We assess various aspects of your eye health, such as the curvature of the cornea and tear production, to ensure that the chosen lenses fit your eyes perfectly.

Lens Training

Finally, you will receive practical instructions on how to insert and remove the lenses. During this training, you will also learn how to properly care for and hygienically use the lenses, allowing you to confidently enjoy your new lenses.

We will measure your eyes with your lenses in to potentially adjust the prescription.

Contact Lens Fitting Check

We will check how your lenses fit on your eyes to prevent any potential eye discomfort.

FAQ's

This depends on the type of appointment and the eye complaints. For a contact lens check or a dry eye examination, it takes approximately 15-20 minutes. If you have other eye complaints that need further investigation with an eye scan or an eye microscope, your eyes will be dilated, and the total duration will be 1 hour: 15 minutes for the examination, 30 minutes waiting for the drops to take effect, plus another 15 minutes for additional tests.

This depends on the type of appointment. If you don’t have a referral letter, you can read more about the costs per appointment type via this link.

If you have a digital referral (ZorgDomein), you pay nothing.

With a paper referral (not via ZorgDomein), you pay approximately €70 from your insurance deductible and €30 out of pocket.

No, eye drops or dyes are used that can change the color or composition of the lenses. Additionally, sometimes it’s necessary to assess the surface of the cornea without lenses. Please bring a lens case and, if possible, your glasses.

Then you will be referred directly to the ophthalmologist, or your general practitioner will be advised to refer you to another medical specialist. This will be discussed with you.

Why Should an Optometrist Fit Contact Lenses?

optometrist silvia del rio

Just like glasses, contact lenses only perform optimally when they are precisely fitted to the eyes. Subjective comfort alone doesn’t reliably indicate how well a lens is truly tolerated. Additionally, glasses and contact lens prescriptions differ due to the varying distance from the eye. For clear, comfortable vision, it’s essential to have your contact lenses fitted by a professional. They will also guide you through the different types of lenses available.

Choosing the wrong lenses can irritate the eyes or even lead to infections. Professionally fitted lenses, on the other hand, provide a perfect fit, superior comfort, and optimal tolerance.

Who Fits Contact Lenses?

In cases of medical eye conditions, an optometrist is the primary contact for lens fitting. The optometrist will first assess the overall health of your eyes and determine whether they’re suitable for contact lenses. If the eyes are healthy, opticians may also perform fittings. Specialists in contact lenses can be found through professional optometry associations.

Generally, the optometrist performs the lens fitting, using their expertise and routine to ensure a reliable and professional fitting for healthy eyes.
