If your child is 8 years or older, they can visit an optometrist for a comprehensive eye exam, usually within 1 to 2 weeks. If an ophthalmologist’s assessment is necessary, we will refer them directly.
This depends on the type of appointment and your eye condition.
A contact lens check-up or a dry eye examination takes about 15-20 minutes.
If further testing is needed, such as an eye scan or microscopic examination, your eyes will be dilated. The total appointment time is 1 hour, which includes:
15 minutes for the initial examination
30 minutes for the eye drops to take effect
15 minutes for additional tests
If you have a digital referral, you will soon be contacted by the Huisarts+Punt scheduling team to arrange an appointment.
If you have a paper referral (not via ZorgDomein), you can book an appointment directly. Please note: There are costs involved. Read more about referrals here. (https://en.zekerzicht.nl/referrals)
Yes! You can book an appointment directly without a referral.
Your pupil (iris) will enlarge, making you more sensitive to bright light. Your near vision may become blurry, depending on your prescription (nearsighted, farsighted, or astigmatism). Some people may also experience temporary blurry distance vision.
Adults with multifocal glasses won’t experience near vision blurriness but may still be sensitive to bright light.
The duration depends on the amount of pigment in your iris:
Light-colored eyes: effects usually wear off within 3-6 hours
Dark-colored eyes: effects can last 6 hours to a week. The darker your eyes, the longer the effects may persist.
Since your pupils will be dilated, your vision may be blurry and more sensitive to light. Driving is not recommended. However, cycling at a normal speed is allowed.
No. Eye drops or dyes used during the exam can alter the color or composition of your lenses. Additionally, your cornea may need to be examined without lenses. Please bring a lens case and, if needed, your glasses.
If further medical assessment is needed, we will refer you to an ophthalmologist or advise your GP to refer you to another specialist. This will be discussed with you during your visit.
